The Stone House in Chester, Illinois
June 2005

In June we spent our 11th anniversary weekend in Chester, Illinois, “Home of Popeye,” on the Mississippi River...doesn’t everyone?

We stayed at The Stone House (see http://www.thestonehouse.net/), right above the river. Breezes up from the river are delightful, and you can watch the barges go by. The hostess, Sandra, a great person to get to know, has created a unique atmosphere...local historical charm spiced up with exotic touches from her travels to Egypt and Norway.

Chester is also close to the old French colonial area of Illinois/Missouri and to Kaskaskia (the original capital of Illinois), which was destroyed when the Mississippi flooded and changed course. Here are some pictures from the trip.
